Great Video Game Ideas Not Used 5

Throwback Edition 1

Andre Ratchford

Hello again there folks, and thank you for taking the time to read another edition of "Great Video Game Ideas Not Used". This article's feature idea is to go back and revisit specific video game series and/or story lines that weren't quite finished or that left room for possible expansion. We'll call this "Throwback" edition number one.

#1 Valis '" I don't know how many people actually know about Valis , but as far as games went, it was one of the best of it's time. I mean, I know it pretty much ended with (Super) Valis IV , but there is plenty of room to expand the story and bring in new characters. The only problem would be that the game would need to play well, and there story would have to make sense. I know that there was a game made called Valis X , but I really don't count that because it was a perverted remake of the other for games. I do believe that now is the time for Valis V . In a 3D world, it would be awesome to the one of the sword wielding maidens and her comrades fighting to protect the Earth, the land of Spirits, and Vacanti (Vekanti). I'm sure that enough people who have actually played and enjoyed the games will agree with me.

#2 Vectorman '" Now this game was really popular in the mid 90s, and I have both entries in the series. I would love to see Sega bring this series back, I think the old Orbot (I wrote that like that intentionally, people who have played Vectorman will understand) has been sitting in the back collecting too much dust. I say let's take a fine dust brush, go over him, and make a new Vectorman game. I know of the game that was planned for PS2 that ended up being canceled because people didn't like the thought of it becoming a third person shooter. I think if enough effort was put into the idea to make the game feel nice, it wouldn't have mattered. Though personally, I'd like to see it as a first person shooter. Either way, he needs his time back in the limelight, before the year 2049.

#3 Vigilante 8 '" Now don't get me wrong, I know about the game that was put on Xbox 360 back in 2008, but that was more of a remake, not really a continuation. Though that game did add some new levels for players to destroy each other on. I'd like to see a newer installment in the series that continues the story after 2nd Offense . Obviously, I don't even need to harp on gameplay, because the 360 game was done right. And I just noticed, my first three games all begin with the letter "V" and just happen to be in alphabetical order, well......time to change things up.

#4 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Series '" Now, I know that I'm not the only player that was disappointed (not in the game) when we found out that Twilight Princess wasn't a direct sequel of the OOT series. I was hoping to see that Link make a return and get to kicking some butt. Though, I'm not against the Link from TP , I do like the Link from OOT better. Seeing as Wind Waker finally revealed what I thought to be true anyway, that there are just a bunch of different Links through out the history of the Hyrulean World. If anyone wants to argue it, they can just look it up on wikipedia, or play the game. And another great idea, seeing as there are so many different Links now, each appearing in a different part of history in the same world, why not do a futuristic Legend of Zelda ? Then again, that might not bode well for people's thoughts of what LOZ should be like. I just say develop a demo and let people play it to see what they think of it.

#5 Sword of the Berserk '" Now, I don't know how many people had this game on Dreamcast, but I'm pretty sure that lots of people know about the manga. I wouldn't mind seeing a continuation of this as a game, because it was a really good game. It's a shame that Eidos hasn't done it, not saying that they haven't tried, but it would make for good gaming. I was really anticipating it to be done, but it's been eleven years since the game was released here in the US.

#6 Captain Commando '" The good ol' captain hasn't had an exclusive game in years. I guess him defeating Scumocide (Genocide in Japan) that one time in that one game was enough. I don't get how so much focus could be put on so many remakes of Street Fighter II , but a character like Captain Commando gets stuck sitting on the back burner. Why not make another game for the beloved 1980s mascot? He didn't even get to be in Marvel vs Capcom 3 , so there needs to be a game made for him soon. Maybe I'm just overreacting and Capcom has made plans to produce another Captain Commando game. But that remains to be seen.

#7 Actraiser '" This is a game that I loved as a child, and loved again as an adult, having gone back to play it again. To think that only 2 games were produced for this series (at least as far as I know). I'd love to see what can be done with this game if they were to actually put together a full sequel to Actraiser 2 . Though I think if another game was produced, it would have to contain the Overworld "God" mode from the first game. It gave the game something nice to work with, and work around other than just dealing with the battles and required a bit more thinking. Another thing I would like to see, this game should remain 2D for action levels, 3D would be nice for the "God" mode, but to play the actual levels, 2D. I think the game will feel better to newcomers and veteran players alike. Hopefully Square Enix will allow Fumiaki Shiraishi to make a sequel for Actraiser like he wants to. If he does, I'll gladly buy it, and play it.

This ends the first throwback edition of GVGINU, I hope that you liked the thoughts I threw out there, and that you would be willing to share some of your own. I'm always ready to hear what other gamers have to say, and would definitely like to share some more of my thoughts as well. As I have been asking, please...provide this link to any video game blog, or forum that you are apart of, thank you and have a nice day. I truly do hope that you enjoyed reading this.
