Great Ways to Use Bamboo in Your Home

It is a well-known fact that bamboos are the fastest growing woody plants in the world. Because of its ability to grow and regrow quickly, the use of bamboo as opposed to traditional wood is more beneficial for the environment. While it takes decades for hardwood forests to regenerate, regenerating bamboo generally only takes a few months.

To do your part in being eco-friendly, consider using bamboo throughout your home as opposed to traditional wood. Not only is bamboo beautiful, but in some cases, it is even stronger than traditional wood.

There are several ways to incorporate bamboo throughout your home. Here are a few ideas:

Use a bamboo veneer to reface your kitchen cabinets or use all bamboo to replace your kitchen cabinets. Bamboo cabinets are fashioned from the canes of bamboo plants, and are exceptionally strong because each of the strands in a bamboo cane is absolutely straight. Because bamboo has no branches, it also has no knots. The "knuckles" which the canes do contain are dense enough that they do nothing to weaken the structure of the bamboo cabinets, and bamboo's stability means that it is much less likely to warp in hot or cold conditions than hardwood.

Bamboo flooring. For many of the same reasons as mentioned above, the use of bamboo for flooring is another great choice in your home. This relatively new type of flooring is as flat as any other hardwood or laminate floor as we know it. With the help of recent technological advances, manufacturers are now turning bamboo stalks into high-quality, ultra smooth flooring on a grand scale in order to meet the fast growing demand for this exceptionally stylish floor covering. Not only is the floor very durable, but bamboo comes in variety of styles and colors to meet just about every homeowner's needs.

Bamboo blankets, sheets, and pillowcases. The use of bamboo in bedding is a relatively new concept to many people; however, its use offers many advantages to consumers. Bamboo bedding is organic, durable, and silky. As a matter of fact, it is softer than cotton. In addition, some sources report that bamboo bedding has natural antibacterial properties.

Basically, the use of bamboo in your home is limitless. In addition to the ideas listed above, here are a few other ways to use bamboo throughout your home:

- Bamboo photo and art framing;

- Using whole stalks of bamboo as decorative accessories;

- Using bamboo to add greenery to your home;

- Bamboo headboard and footboard for your bed;

- Other bamboo accessories such as place mats and chargers.
