Ebay
To sell on Ebay, all that is needed is to set up an account, fill out the "seller" application and scan in a photograph. They take a small commission based on how much the item sells for, and there's a reasonable fee to advertise. The ad includes a photo, so make sure to include one, as ads with photos sell much better than those without them. If you want to accept credit cards, and then set up a free Paypal account, otherwise you can choose to accept payments by check or other means. Take a look at other vendors, to see how much their items are selling for, if you aren't sure how to price your item. Make sure to check how much the shipping is, too, and be competitive in your pricing.
Craigslist.com
A great resource for many things, Craigslist is like a giant bulletin board. It's free to post your ad, and no commissions are taken if you sell. Just get go to the site, and look around. There are classifieds of different kinds, both buying and selling items. Choose the city closest to where you live and post your ad on that branch of this very large and popular site. There is even a "free" section, so if you just want to give something away, you can post the item there. It's free to post photos with your ads, too.
Usfreeads.com
This is another place that you can place ads for free. It seems to do well in Google rankings and is well publicized. If you want more features, you can choose to feature your ad, which is a reasonable monthly amount. Having done it, myself, it has been helpful for getting exposure to buyers and being seen online. This site is useful and had handy information, to let you know how many people have looked at your ad, editing tools, and much more. It's a good thing.
Amazon.com
If books are your thing, than sell your old ones on Amazon. Just register your information, sign up as a seller, and post your ad. If you want to do auctions, then those are also available to you as well. It's a good way to sell unwanted books. Here you have an audience of people who love to read, and value all kinds of books, even older ones that are out of print.
Getting rid of unneeded things is easy. Take some time and read the instruction information on each of these sites. Having sold items using all of them, I can attest to their usefulness. The internet is so helpful for communication and advertising. Make good use of it and soon, you'll be surprised how easy selling was. It's a great to know that these resources are here for you whenever you need them.
