Heartburn doesn't just affect those who love their spicy foods and whom are under stress. Pregnant women suffer from heartburn as well. You will find as your pregnancy continues that antacids tend to be a special part of your life, perhaps a daily routine. Want to know something more astonishing, heartburn has nothing to do with your heart!

Heartburn is very common during pregnancy. Unbelievably, six in three women experience heartburn during their pregnancy in the third trimester. The reason being because your baby has grown at a tremendous amount, and your uterus has moved against your stomach, and is putting pressure on it. This crowds the digestive area and allows acids to move back up the esophagus.

There are ways to prevent heartburn during pregnancy. Keep your meals fairly small. Try to stick with eating six small meals through out your day. Large meals tend to stuff up your stomach which is already squashed. A full stomach makes the acids rise more frequently causing more heartburn.

Try eating slower while you eat as well. Not only will your enjoy your meals tons more, but you're stomach will take more time to digest it, which later means, no heartburn! Here is another rule of thumb to start doing, eat at least six hours before bedtime. This will help your food digest before your sleep, which means no tossing and turning tights of heartburn!

Another tip is to keep your solid foods and beverages separate. Too much fluid mixed with tons of food can upset the stomach which can cause heartburn. It is also advised to eat while sitting up. Try to resist eating while you are laying down in bed or on the couch relaxing. If worse comes to worse, and that bed time snack is calling your name, sit up in your bed with some pillows.

When you are down, and have no other option, don't be afraid to take something for your heartburn. Rolaids are safe during this time, as well as Tums. If you are still scared of taking over the counter medication, try eating things such as handful of almonds. Almonds are a stomach's dream for heartburn.
