If you are ever out in west
Texas
and are looking for something to do and somewhere to go, I suggest you try Lake J.B. Thomas. The lake is located on the Colorado River and is about 10 miles south of the city of
Snyder
. Lake J.B. Thomas is a great lake for fishing, camping, and having a family picnic. It is a safe and quite place for a family get together or just a weekend trip.
There is a five dollar day pass per vehicle which includes everyone in the vehicle. There is also an annual pass available for sixty dollars and for seniors the annual pass is only ten dollars. Lake J.B. Thomas has several picnic areas with covered tables. The picnic areas are spread out that way there is not a feeling of being crowded by other people having picnics as well. Each picnic area has its own bbq pit and trash can. There are public restrooms located at the lake as well and are always kept very clean and are within walking distance of the camping and picnic areas.
There is a boat ramp for people looking to do some fishing from a boat or for those who may want to do some water skiing. The boat ramp is a one lane boat ramp and provides parking for 8 to 10 vehicles. Fishing can be done from the shore as well with some great locations for bank fishers to choose from. There are numerous types of fish to catch which include largemouth bass, white bass, channel catfish, flathead catfish, blue catfish, crappie, and sunfish. Crappie fishing is very popular at this lake. The crappies are plentiful and are fun to catch. Another favorite is the sunfish for the young fishers just starting out. Camping is allowed all along the lake shore and at picnic areas too. Campers will find Lake J.B. Thomas a great lake to relax at and have a peaceful time.
If you happen to forget some thing for a picnic or want to pick up something to cook out or run out of bait while fishing or just want to have dinner at a restaurant, the town of Snyder is less than 20 minutes away. Snyder also has a bowling alley a movie theater and a few places to shop. If you are looking to get away but not to far away Lake J.B. Thomas would be a perfect choice for anyone who likes to have a fun time and enjoys the outdoors.
