Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio: Review

A Great Family Vacation

Danny Crum
We finished out our series of mini vacations this summer at the Great Wolf Lodge in Mason, Ohio. Great Wolf Lodge is located just North of Cincinnati and conveniently located adjacent to Kings Island. It sits on 39 acres of land and the resort itself is 450,000 square feet of fun. There are 401 suite guest rooms available with 11 different configurations to fit your family.

Upon arrival we were quickly and easily checked into our room in minutes. Every person in your party gets a bracelet to wear for your entire visit. The bracelet must be worn at all times in order to have access to your room, the pool, and the water park. The bracelets make the entire visit very convenient. Not only can you use the bracelet to get access to your room and amenities, but you can also use your bracelet as a credit card to track all of your spending. No need to carry around a wallet, purse or keys while you are at the resort.

Speaking of your wallet there are many shops and restaurants located right inside the resort including a grille, pizza hut, ice cream shop, pastry shop, Starbucks and the list continues. The prices of the shops and restaurants are a little expensive, but this is to be expected from any family resort.

Our suite was very spacious and extremely clean. The one we had included 2 bedrooms with a total of 3 beds. There were two full bathrooms and a kitchenette. The family room was very spacious and big enough to accommodate 6 adults and 2 children.

Entertainment was not a problem because the lodge comes equipped with 93,000 square feet of pools, slides and sprinklers. Our three year old was entertained every minute we were in the water park. There was also a large outdoor pool if you wanted some sun. An arcade was located inside with over 100 video games and a ticket redemption center. Daily activities were offered for children including stories and crafts. For the active adults there was a fitness center to meet those needs.

The room rates are a little expensive and I think vary at different times of the year. Our suite cost about $520 for the night, but again that was for 6 adults and 2 children. You can check into the water park the day you arrive and even though checkout is at 11:00 am, you can stay at the water park until 10 pm that evening. Basically you get 2 full days at the water park and one nights stay.

Overall, we had a wonderful experience at Great Wolf Lodge. If you are looking for a great getaway no matter what time of the year, Great Wolf Lodge may be your place. It was a huge success with our family!
