Great Yogi Berra Quotes Are Called Yogiisms
Baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra May Be More Famous for His Great Quotes
1. "I want to thank you for making this day necessary."
--This great Yogi Berra quote is purported to be his first ever Yogiism, made in 1947 during Yogi Berra Day in St. Louis, Missouri. He was being honored in St. Louis, and meant to utter the word "possible" rather than "necessary".
2. "It gets late early out there."
--This Yogiisim quote refers to the left field area of Yankee Stadium; that is, the conditions of the sun. Baseball fans will know that that shadows can be cast over whole sections of the outfield, making it a challenge to play.
3. "It's deja vu all over again."
--It's been asserted that baseball Hall of Famer Yogi Berra didn't quip this Yogiism, but I've heard the man say he did utter this famous Yogiism on a 60 Minutes interview, as well as some other great quotes. In this quote, he was referring to Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris hitting home runs over and over again.
4. "I didn't really say everything I said."
--This great quote is actually a part of a book title authored by Berra, whose title begins "The Yogi Book", which can be bought online at such sites as Amazon.com.
5. "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."
--Yogi Berra made this quote in reference to directions to his home in the state of New Jersey. For when you get to the fork, you can go either way, and you'll end up at his house. People who need great quotes for motivational speeches have used this statement often.
6. "Nobody goes there anymore because it's too crowded."
--This is one of my favorite Yogiisms because this great quote really rings true. How often do people avoid places because it's too crowded?
7. Berra made this quote about baseball attendance: "If people don't want to come to the ballpark, nobody's going to stop them."
8. Have you noticed the towels in most hotels are non-descript these days? Well, this Yogiism certainly sheds light as to why: "The towels were so thick there I could hardly close my suitcase."
9. Many great quotes abound about the game of baseball, but Yogi Berra's quip about the National Pastime is very renowned indeed: "Ninety per cent of the game is half mental."
10. "We have a good time together, even when we're not together."
--This is the favorite great Berra quote of the wife of Yogi Berra, Carmen. They have been married for over 50 years, so it's safe to say that Carmen has certainly been exposed to all of the above great quotes many times.
