Grand thefts and crimes usually end up tragically for their authors. But the temptation was and is still here because there will always be those who think that they will succeed. Lets look at the most biggest thefts that were committed in the last 200 years. All over the years thieves had only one goal: steal as much money as possible and never get caught. But lets face it, almost all of them did not succeed in stealing a great fortune and never being caught by authorities.
Richard (Dick) Turpin - he was the most known thieve in England (after Robin Hood). Turpin was a simple craftsman who lived in 18th century. He had a butcher shop and soon realized that honest work is not as profitable as he thought it was. He began to steal sheep and young cows but soon got caught. Turpin managed to escape and he joined the gang called the Gregory Gang which was storming the Essex woods and raiding estates. The gang did not last long and they got caught. But Turpin managed to escape once again. He worked alone raiding carriages. Soon he was joined by Tom King a.k.a. "thieve gentleman". They say that Turpin and King met in the woods while Turpin was trying to rob King. They worked very successfully but soon were caught. They failed because of their self-confidence and greed. At the end Richard Turpin was imprisoned and hanged.
Isaac Davis- the first man who robbed a bank in USA. He was not caught at first; in fact another man got blamed for the crime. Davis was captured because of his greed and thoughtlessness. He started to brag of his wealth and opened bank accounts. People knew that Davis was always poor and eventually he was pressured and he surrendered.
Reno Gang - they robbed a post train and stole $16,000. They committed a few more robberies in a two years time. Eventually they were ambushed. Reno gang was arrested and waiting for trial but angry crowed lynched them before the trial.
Jessie James - one of the most notorious American outlaw, gang leader, bank robber.
Joseph Stalin - at his early life he used to rob banks and trains.
All in all, the most successful thieves always stay behind the scenes and order thugs to do the dirty work. But sooner or later they usually get caught.
