A Win Instead of a Loss

Charles Melius
With Anna and Shane alongside
June and Gloria also to guide
Fifty miles to the North
Soon there as I snored
Sleeping most of the way on the ride

A trip to Greektown unforseen
Went we to play hot slot machines
With tokens ready
Hands not so steady
Sat staring at green poker screens

The money I'd slide in the slot
The button I'd hit on the top
To roll just one chance
And not miss a glance
Then try again after it stops

For hours just sitting on end
Time & money was there all to spend
Though others nearby
Would also try
Could not they win in the end

Such pressure to try and to win
My head soon it began to spin
I needed some food
Big chili-dogs good
With coffee for only a Fin

Then back to the coin eating box
To try again beating the clock
Before we to go
I wanted to show
How much I could lose from my sock

This time as the banker he rolled
His finger he snapped and hit gold
Free games soon they followed
As quick as I swallowed
One Hundred dollars was mine to unfold

Such sport could easily become
A habit had I always won
But thats not the rule
To lose is so cruel
All this one must think of as fun

On leaving big dark Detroit City
Thought I of folks oh not so witty
To throw away money
Is just not so funny
It seems such a sorrowful pity
