Green

Don Rothra
Green is a beautiful color,
But to have it, you must have rain.
Hours and hours
Of down pouring showers
Can drive a person insane.

I went back east to observe it,
A beauty beyond one's belief,
The trees were green,
The grass was green,
The mold on my bread gave me grief.

Now don't take offense to this writing,
A desert rat's not used to rain.
I only know,
That each time I go,
I come back with arthritic pain.

With temperatures up in the nineties,
Humidity scales of the same,
To breath was a pain,
I'd just sweat with no gain,
I had to go back where I came.

It rains in the desert in seasons,
That lasts a week, and it's gone.
The desert turns green,
Such a beautiful scene,
But to live under water is wrong.

Very good. I live in a very humid and green state, but we have wonderful springs and falls, summers are the only bad times, and winter of course with the bitter cold and snow. Very nice poem.

It's supposed to rain all week here in Ohio. I will comfort myself with your words :-)

Rain? Yes, we have had a lot of that as well as humidity, as well as the Tornado that just hit on July 24th. A rarity for this area. I think I would prefer the desert right now too. Good work Don.
