Green ABC's Tip # 5 for a Green and Healthy Holiday Season

The holiday season normally holds visions of harried shoppers, blissful family dinners (NOT), Christmas trees and holly along with a varied number of carolers singing off-key and a few drawers full of booze for the fortunate few.

However, those visions do not normally encompass a pair of eco-friendly sunglasses. But, they should. Let me tell you why. As we move into winter here in Northern Indiana, the snow has begun to fall. Those beautiful, white, and pristine snowflakes often turn into big piles of white mountainous precipitation that offers an awful glare. Honestly, at this time of year, I have found that I often need my sunglasses more than I do in the summer.

Another thing about getting into eco-friendly gifts this year; watch for those goofy ecopreneurs who try to pass off their products as green when they're not- if you are a green person you will soon know if they are green by your standards. There is a world of green this year when it comes to gift giving, cards, and all sorts of toys and apparel. Stella McCartney, celebrity vegetarian and environmentalist will soon be coming out with her own line of eco-friendly sunglasses - not in time for the holiday, though. So, it is worth your time and efforts to be careful, read product descriptions, and try to buy from Fair Trade companies. If you want to give food as a gift, go organic or local. There are a bunch of cool places online. I have a personal bias towards the Fruit Company. Their fruit and other products are delicious and their prices are within range - not crazy Black Friday discounts, but honest to goodness good deals!
