Green Bay Packers Cap Detroit Lions' 0-16 Season

Green Bay Packers Win Over the Detroit Lions

KRISY OESTREICH
The final game of the 2008 season for both the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions were as meaningful as ever. No, it wouldn't decide who would make the playoffs. The Detroit Lions were trying not to make history as the first team ever to go 0-16. For the Packers, it was to not lose against an 0-15 football team. However, the satisfaction could only go to the team that wanted it most.

The Packers started early, as backup running back DeShawn Wynn busted loose for a 73-yard touchdown run. Later in the first quarter, quarterback Aaron Rodgers connected with rookie Jermichael Finley for a 3-yard toss-up touchdown. The Lions were the only ones to score in the second and third quarter. In fact, quarterback Dan Orlovsky hooked up with wide receiver Calvin Johnson twice for touchdowns.

Kicker Mason Crosby showed his accuracy after coming up a few yards short on a 69-yard field goal attempt and nailing a 36-yard field goal. Fullback John Kuhn of the Packers caught a touchdown from Rodgers to extend the lead. Although the Lions struck back with a 9 yard touchdown from Kevin Smith, the Packers answered with a 71-yard bomb to Donald Driver for the final score of the game.

The Lions lost to the Packers 21-31, but they do get to go down in the history books. The Detroit Lions were the second team to not win a game in a season (1976 Buccaneers), but they are the first to lose 16 games in a season. Immediately following the day, Rod Marinelli was fired from his head coaching position of the Lions. Whoever coaches Detroit next season, they better be able to turn the team around. Fast.

Buy a Ford and support a losing football team for life!
For over a 100 years Detroiters have been taking pride in building Ford vehicles and are responsible for the automotive industry. As generations pass son's replace fathers on the production line and are willing to give blood, sweat and tears for their jobs. We do it because of pride! http://detroitlionsrebuildingsince1957.com/
