Green Beer Recipe for St. Patrick's Day Celebrations

Jessie Penn
St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in Ireland, but it's the Americans that turned it into a green beer party day. A good Irishman would never diminish a good ale by adding drops of green food coloring.

But, on March 17th, in America, you'll see green food, green beverages, and people wearing green apparel, jewelry and makeup! Did you know that St. Patrick was not from Ireland; he was from Wales. So, who invented green beer? I was unable to find any real credible evidence, and everything indicates that green beer was an American invention.

Most likely, the best explanation could be that American's love a reason to drink beer, and the green color makes it a pretty liquid. Creative Irish-Americans embellished on the traditional celebration, and St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in the United States more than any other country in the world.

So, there you have it, we love a party, we love parades, and we love to drink beer. What more could you want?

GREEN BEER RECIPE

1 bottle of Harp Lager (or similar light beer)

Green food coloring

1 frosted mug or pint glass

Drop two or three drops of green food coloring into your mug or glass (or more to get the green color you want). Pour the lager or beer into the glass. Enjoy!

For a nifty look, add a drop or two to the head of the beverage, and stir gently to get a cool swirl or green on top.

Recipe makes 1 serving.
