Sunnyvale is working hard to "go green". The city took a poll recently to get a feel for what residents thought about two environmental issues. Out of 300 respondents, 89% said they favor solar for new construction. 68% support banning the use of plastic grocery bags (single-use). What is good for the environment may also be good for the job market in Sunnyvale.

For example, employment growth for geoscientists and hydrologists between 2008 and 2018 is estimated to experience an18% increase, which is faster than average for all other occupations according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. College grads are not the only ones who may benefit from green careers in Sunnyvale.

Blue-collar jobs may give way to green-collar jobs in Sunnyvale as sectors such as clean energy, conservation, pollution mitigation, and environmentally friendly products and services increase across the nation. With many new companies cropping up in the solar energy industry and green technology across Silicon Valley, this may be one indication that green careers may be the job market of the future for white-collar and blue-collar workers in Sunnyvale.
