Green Craft Project for Kids--Homemade Wind Chime

Spring Craft Project for Kids!

Lyn Vaccaro
If you're looking for a cute green craft project for kids, try this wind chime made from seashells, branches and a stick to hang a group of three in a row from. It's the perfect spring project for kids that they can hang outside without too much trouble and not only that, it makes some pleasant sounds too as all three of them cling and clang together in the wind.

Supplies

Different colored Raffia, ribbon, or yarn

Seashells (it's more fun if you make a day of finding your own)

Scissors

A long branch or stick

Assorted neon colored paints

Paintbrush

This project is a group of 3 separate wind chimes tied next to each other on a branch or stick. When the wind blows they will knock into each other and create a pleasant and gentle chime sound.

Directions

For the first strand of chimes cut two separate lengths of raffia or ribbon, making them approximately 18 inches long. Tie in a knot at the end of these about 2 ½ inches from the end.

Next, place one of your seashells above that first knot. The take both pieces of raffia, or ribbon and tie them around that first seashell securely. You want the knot around the shells to be good and snug so the shells don't slip out.

Your goal is to place the shells evenly above each other to create an uniform look, and then tie another knot around another shell until you reach the end of the raffia, leaving around 2 ½ inches at the top as well as the bottom. Tie the top securely to the branch you'll be using to hang the chime from.

You'll then be making 2 more of these very same chimes, but with different colored raffia tied to the seashells.

Once you've completed all of the hanging chimes and tied them to your branch or stick, find a secure place to hang each of your stick from where you'll be able to hear the peaceful chiming of your green homemade wind chime. Be sure your shells are tied tightly to avoid losing them and enjoy the new sound that surrounds you.
