Wendy Roltgen
One of my favorite things to do is to find ways to turn discarded everyday objects into something fun and whimsical. This green crafts project takes toilet paper rolls and turns them into a colorful sculpture. It's an affordable way to add a splash of color to any room and when you get tired of it simply repaint, recycle or transform into something new.

Toilet paper tubes or the tubes from wrapping paper are a wonderful medium to work with. The paper is flexible and easy to mold into interesting shapes. The surface can be painted or decorated with a permanent marker. It's free and something you have an on-going growing supply of. This green crafts project using rings cut from toilet paper tubes to make a free standing sculpture of your own. Since materials are kid-friendly, it's a fun project to do with your kids or on your own and only takes a few hours to create.

Green Crafts Project Supplies Needed

To create this colorful green crafts project you'll need approximately five toilet paper tubes, scissors, ruler, hot glue gun, paint brush and acrylic paints in the colors you desire. You'll also need some newspaper or cardboard to protect the table surface from paint.

How to Make this Toilet Paper Tubes Green Crafts Project

To create a sculpture, you'll want the toilet paper tube rings to be equal in size. Use a ruler to measure and marker to mark the recycled toilet paper tube. With scissors, cut each ring to be ½-inch or ¾-inch wide. After cutting all the toilet paper tubes to the desired size, use a paint brush to paint the interior and exterior of paper tube. Then set aside to dry. If you prefer the natural look of the toilet paper rolls, you won't need to use paint.

Once the paint has dried, you can start to play around with the painted toilet paper tubes to create a sculpture design you like. You can create interesting geometric shape sculpture or try to make one that resembles an animal or flower. Once you are satisfied with the design, use a hot glue gun to secure each of the individual toilet paper tube pieces into place. Let the glue dry. Use paint to touch up any areas you may have missed.

Other green crafts projects you can create using toilet paper tubes include wreaths, animals, wall hangings, mobiles and more. You can also try making other sculpture designs using toilet paper tube rings cut in various sizes for added interest. The only real limit is your imagination.
