GREEN CROWN TOPPED CHRISTMAS STOCKING Using Extended Double Crochet Stitch
Crochet a Christmas Stocking with a Popcorn Stitch Crown
Finished Size: 8"x21"
Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Materials:
Caron Christmas Glitter:
3 1/2 oz Green (MC)
1 oz Christmas Ombre (CC)
Or you may use any worsted weight yarn (#4)
Aluminum H (5.0mm) hook
Tapestry needle
Scissors
Gauge= 3 exdc rows = 2''
6 exdc= 2"
Pattern Notes:
Ch 3 counts as an extended double crochet.
Work over yarn tails.
Extended double crochet (exdc):
Yarn over hook, insert hook in stitch, yarn over, pull through st, yarn
over, draw through one loop on hook, (yarn over, draw through 2loops on hook) 2 times.
Reverse single crochet ( rev sc):
Working from left to right, insert hook in next stitch to the right,
complete as a sc.
Decrease (dec):
( insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull through st) 2 times, yarn
over, pull through all 3 loops on hook.
Beginning Popcorn (beg pc): Ch 3, 4 dc in same st, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top of beg ch 3, pull dropped loop through, ch 1 to lock st.
Popcorn (pc): 5 dc in next st, drop loop from hook, insert hook in top of first dc, pull dropped loop through, ch 1 to lock st.
Increase (inc): Work 2 sts in one st.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Stocking:
Rnd 1: With MC, ch 40, join with a sl st to first ch,
ch 3, exdc in each rem ch, (40), join to top of beg ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, exdc in each st around, join to top of beg ch-3, (40).
Rnd 3-15: rep round 2. At end of round 15,
join to to of beg ch-3 and fasten off.
Heel:
Row 1; With CC, sl st in beg ch-3 of round 15, ch 1, sc in same st and in each of next 19 st, (20).
Row 2: Dec, sc across to within last 2 sc, dec, ch 1 turn, (18 )
Rows 3-9: Rep row 2. At the end of row 9, 4 sts rem.
Row 10: Dec 2 times. ( 2).
Row 11: Inc in eac st, (4).
Row 12-19: Inc in first st, sc across to last st, inc in last st. At the
end of row 19 there will be 20 sts.
Row 20: Sc in each st across, (20). Fasten off.
Foot:
Rnd 1: Attach MC with a sl st in first exdc on left side of heel,
ch 3, exdc in each of next 19 sts, exdc in each of the 20 sc of last heel row, st in first ch-3, join with a sl st in beg ch-3, (40).
Rnd 2: Ch 3, exdc in each of next 39 sts, join with a sl st in beg ch-3,
(40).
Rnd 3-6: Rep round 2, At the end of round 6, join with sl st to
beg ch-3 and fasten off.
Toe:
Rnd 1: With CC, join with a sl st to beg ch-3, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in each of next 39 sts, do not join, , (40).
Rnd 2: *Sc in each of next 8 sc, dec, rep from * around, (36)
Rnd 3: *Sc in each of next 7 sc, dec,rep from * around, (32).
Rnd 4: * Sc in each of next 6 sc,rep from * around (28).
Rnd 5: * Sc in each of next 5 sc, rep from * around, (24).
Round 6: * Sc in each of next 4 sc, dec,rep from * around, (20).
Rnd 7: Dec around. (10). Fasten off. Leave a length for sewing
Opening shut.
Top Trim:
Fold stocking so that heel is on left hand side.
Note: Unless otherwise stated, join with a sl st to beg ch-1.
Rnd 1: Join CC with a sl st in left hand sp between 2 sts, ch 1, sc in same sp, sc in each sp around,( 40).
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in same sp, pc in next st,* sc in next st, pc in next st, rep from * around,( 20 sc and 20 pc).
Rnd 3: Ch 1, inc in same sp, skip next pc, * inc, skip next pc, rep from * around, ( 40 sc ).
Rnd 4: Rev sc around, ch 10 ( for hanging loop),
sl st in beg ch-1. Fasten off.
Sew heel seam with matching yarn. Weave in yarn tails.
