Green and Eco Friendly

Finding Practical Tips to a Greener, More Eco Friendly Lifestyle by Reusing Plastic Bags!

Melissa B
Lately the new buzz words seem to be "going green". It's all about eco friendly products and greener lifestyles. There are many eco friendly, green products catching our attention out there. But there still are things we can do in our own homes that re use simple items to create less junk that ends up in landfills. By using the three R of recycling, which we probably learned back in elementary day (reduce, reuse and recycle) using the three "R' method is still very practical in our modern day for living out a more eco friendly, green, lifestyle!

So here one of the products that shouldn't find themselves to the trash can - at least not right away! A grocery store plastic bag! Remember, when we reduce the amount of products that can end up in a landfill, and reuse what we do have, we end up saving money too! Going "green" can seem like it costs money, especially when you look at all the eco friendly green products out there, but these basics can have you feeling better about your attempt at going green!

Plastic Bags: Okay the new green, eco friendly thing is these tiny bags that you usually purchase at your grocery store for about $1.00-$5.00 each. These eco friendly bags mean less plastic grocery bags are being used once and tossed away. It does help reduce the unnecessary amount of not so eco friendly plastic consumption - but not if you turn around and have to buy plastic trash bags that you could replace with these bags!

So let let me ask you, do you still purchase trash bags? Well, you could save some cash, and be a little more eco-friendly if you reused all of those plastic bags you are getting for free from the grocery store! These bags make a great trash bag for smaller trash containers such as bathroom or office! You can reuse them until something icky gets tossed away and then pop them out just like a regular bag and toss 'em out! The good thing is you are reusing something that would have ended up in the trash right away. And by doing that you are reducing the amount of "store bought" trash bags you would have ended up using anyways, plus your saving money!

There are a lot of things you can reuse these grocery store bags for. To name a few more eco friendly, green ideas - they are great for when you are scooping cat littler, just pop in the bag and out it goes! Some people actually buy special kitty litter bags to toss it in - not me! I also often reuse these bags for putting older clothes into before giving donating it, and even use it as a quick "lunch bag" when I am on the go. It is also pretty eco friendly to just recycle your bags once you are done with them. If you have a huge stash of them and are not using them up quick enough, most grocery stores have a bin somewhere near the entrance of the store to actually stuff old grocery bags! One store I know of (Redners Markets), actually gives you .03 cents off your grocery bill for every bag you bring into their store to reuse - not bad! Be creative and you will find that there are tons of uses you can use and reuse these bags for!

This is not the only way to be eco friendly of course, just a small step in the green direction. A lot of small steps in the green, eco friendly direction can make a HUGE impact - remember it really is the little things that can make all the difference in our environment and your eco friendly walk towards going green!
