Green Gets Second Chance to Break Packers' Rushing Records

Three days after Donald Driver set the team record for career receptions, the Green Bay Packers are bringing back a player who could break two more long-standing records.

The Packers signed former running back Ahman Green to a one-year contract Wednesday. The move means the 32-year-old player will get a second chance to break two of the team's all-time career rushing record; records that have been held by Jim Taylor since 1966.

When Green left via free agency in 2007, he was two carries shy of breaking the most career attempts record (1,811 attempts) and 46 yards shy of setting the team record for most career rushing yards (8,207 yards).

Since Ryan Grant is entrenched as the starter, Green will need to pick up those yards as a back up. However, with 11 games remaining, the records are easily within reach. Of course, this is assuming they won't cut him and promote Kregg Lumpkin from the practice squad once Brandon Jackson is fully healed.

Green currently holds several other Packers' rushing records. These include most attempts in a season (355), most seasons with 1,000 or more rushing yards (6), most yards in a season (1,883), most yards in a game (218), most games with 100 or more rushing yards (33), most 100 yard games in a season (10) most consecutive 100 yard games (4), longest run from scrimmage (98 yards). He is tied with Taylor for most consecutive 1,000 yard seasons (5).

Even if Green does break the two career records, Taylor would still possess several other team rushing records. Included in those team records are records for most seasons leading the league in attempts (2), most consecutive seasons leading the team in both attempts and yards (7), most rushing touchdowns (81), most rushing touchdowns in a season (19), and most rushing touchdowns in a game (4). Taylor also remains the only Green Bay Packers player ever to lead the league in rushing yards; which he did in 1962.
