One of the forerunners of bringing environmentally friendly products to the home is the brand known as Energy Star. Started in 1992 but the United States Environmental Protection Agency, it was first introduced as a voluntary program to help control greenhouse gases and emissions that stem from home office and computer products, lights, and accessories.
As global warming has become more of a reality than ever before, however, the general public has been scrambling to do their part to help offset the negative effects that we as a nation have had on the environment. Energy Star stepped up to meet the demands of these needs, and expanded their business to now include many common appliances, heating and cooling systems, construction materials and of course, electronic equipment of all types.
Some of the larger, more expensive green gift ideas from that are Energy Star rated include stoves, washing machines and dryers, television sets, stereos and personal home computers. While these make ideal gifts for a parent to give to a child, or vice versa, these are still too expensive for most people to give out as a common gift for the Holiday season.
But there are plenty of smaller appliances and electronics that are Energy Star rated, too - which makes shopping for any person a breeze; not only for Christmas but for any occasion. Appliances such as microwaves or toaster ovens are inexpensive, and so are clock radios and some small television sets.
It's never too late to start doing your part to save our environment - and by passing out green gifts for the Holiday season you are even helping others do their part, as well. This is what makes giving environmentally friendly gifts such a popular idea - but because there is such a variety of Energy Star products available, your gift can still be unique and one of a kind, as well. No matter what, you can't go wrong when giving out environmentally friendly, green gifts for any occasion.
