Green Goals for January

January's Eco-friendly Tips

Britt Baker
As the first month of the new year, January is a great time to start being more green, and these tips will help you get started living more eco-friendly. These green goals for January are a great way to make sure you're living up to your new year's resolutions, or can be a starting point for new ones. Use these eco-friendly tips to turn over a new, greener leaf in the beginning of the new year.

1. Eat more organic foods. Organic foods are produced without chemical fertilizers, insecticides, and pesticides, which are harmful for our bodies and the earth. So, by choosing to eat more organic foods, you are helping not just the earth, but yourself.

2. Use eco-friendly skincare products. Instead of using conventional skincare products, choose bath and body products that, instead, are made with all natural and organic ingredients, like nourishing herbs and vitamins. This awesome green goal for January will help you feeling clean and refreshed and will be healthier for your skin and the planet.

3. Donate your unneeded goods. Donate your old clothing, toys, and other items you don't use anymore to an organization that helps others, such as Planet Aid or Goodwill. Donating items that you no longer use but are still in good condition can help others, as well as limit the need for new items to be created, and thus, allow you to be more eco-friendly.

4. Don't forget your animal companions. Whether you have dogs, cats, or any other kind of animal companions, make sure they're living green, as well. Choose organic food for all of your animal friends, as well as other green products like toys, grooming products, and beds.

5. Use eco-friendly cleaning products. Conventional cleaning products are often filled with harsh, toxic chemicals that are polluting our environment and damaging our health. Replace your conventional cleaning products with comparably price, earth-friendly ones that are safer for your health and the earth.

6. Drive less. One of the best green goals for January is to drive less, carpool, bike or walk more, or take public transportation when possible. All of these options limit the amount of pollution in the earth's atmosphere, and biking and walking, when possible, is a great way to get in shape, too!

7. Recycle more. Make sure you recycle all of the items you can by learning about the various categories of recyclable goods. Another thing to remember is that many electronics, like old cell phones, computers, and television sets are also recyclable. You can find your local recycling center options online.

8. Support an environmental organization. You can help an environmental organization, such as the World Wildlife Fund, Sierra Club, or The Nature Conservancy by donating money, signing petitions, or even volunteering. This is one of the most rewarding green goals for January that can help you start the new year off in the right direction.
