Green Industry Partners Establish 'Mowers for Military Families'

Equipment and Services Support Families of Service Personnel

Bloomington, MN: Mower manufacturer Lawn-Boy® has partnered with Project EverGreen to make yard care a little easier for military families with loved ones serving in the Middle East. The joint project "Mowers for Military Families" will place a new Lawn-Boy® lawnmower in the yards of fifteen military homes.

Lawn-Boy® brand has been a leading manufacturer of residential lawnmowers and tractors since 1934. Project EverGreen is a national non-profit aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of green space and supporting those who enhance the landscapes of homes, businesses and communities.

The establishment of the "Mowers for Military Families" program between Lawn-Boy® and Project EverGreen is an extension of Project EverGreen's GreenCare for Troops initiative. GreenCare for Troops provides military families with donated services from lawn and landscape contractors as a way to recognize the daily hardships military families face when a family member is away on active duty.

In 2006, over 2,500 families of service personnel signed up for GreenCare for Troops receiving free lawn and landscape help from more than 670 contractors and volunteers.

The "Mowers for Military Families" program derives from the same sentiment but is geared towards families who manage their own lawn care but need better equipment.

Dan Gardner, executive director of Project EverGreen, said in a press release, "Our goal is to get these mowers into the hands of families who take care of their own lawns, but don't have the right equipment. We consider this a way to thank families which are making great personal sacrifices."

Nominations for deserving military families are being accepted from April 9 through June 30, 2007. Submissions can be self-nominations or for another family detailing the need for a new lawn mower in 150 words or less. Participants are encouraged to send photos of the nominated family and their old, beat-up lawnmower.

"If you are a military family in need of a new mower, or you know of one, we want to hear from you," Lawn-Boy® marketing manager Rob Little said in a press release. "The military and their families make great sacrifices, and we thank them for all they do for our country."

The fifteen families chosen will receive a Lawn-Boy® Insight™ walk-behind mower. This model was chosen for its ease of use designed with features suitable to any family member.

Nominations may be submitted online at either the Lawn-Boy® website or Project EverGreen website. To submit by mail: "Mowers for Military Families LB, P.O. Box 26, Minneapolis, MN, 55420.
