'Green Lantern' Receives Fairly Positive Reception in Tennessee

John Barnett

Wishing to capture some of the success of their Marvel rivals, DC and Warner Brothers have seen fit to release "Green Lantern." Many have fond memories of Hal Jordan and his green ring, but does that mean the movie will be as a great? For those wondering what Tennessee movie viewers thought of the premier of the Green Lantern corps, look no further than below.

"Between 'Dark Knight' and 'Green Lantern,' people should have all the proof they need that DC can outclass Marvel. I loved seeing Green Lantern's origin revealed on the big screen. He might not have the Tony Stark charisma, but he's a much deeper character. Props for how well done Sinestro was. I'll never be able to go back to the two-dimensional Marvel films." -- Devin Malone, 26, Memphis

"I didn't have a real issue with the movie. It wasn't bad. It wasn't fantastic. The thing that disappointed me was the lack of John Stewart. I don't care if more people know the Hal Jordan version, I want one focusing on John Stewart. I like his brooding, serious nature. Despite my personal complaints, Ryan Reynolds did a great job. Seriously though, John Stewart needs to be in the sequel." -- George Wilson, 22, Orange Mound

"I was ecstatic when they finally announced that Green Lantern was getting his own movie. Superman and Batman have clung to the spotlight for too long. Ryan Reynolds really did a fantastic job portraying Hal Jordan. The number of fights could have been ramped up, but otherwise it was great." -- Kayla Omer, 30, Cordova

"What a thrill it was seeing the ring's powers manifest in 3D! I love this 3D craze, even if it does make the tickets more expensive. After seeing Hal Jordan defending the earth in three dimensions, I decided on the spot to purchase a 3D TV. Thank you, Hal." -- Casey Ridge, 24, Memphis

"I don't know who thought Blake Lively was a good choice for Carol, but I was otherwise impressed. It got annoying just looking at her blank stares and poorly delivered lines when the rest of the cast performed so much better." -- Laura Rhen, 20, Memphis

"Visually, it was spectacular. The 3D effects weren't tacked on like other movies, but the plot was sort of weak. They didn't really do a good job adapting his early life to the big screen. The battles were highly impressive though. Some of the humor was out of place, though." -- Mindy Schroder, 27, Collierville

"It was a letdown! I wanted to see more of his later life! The Green Lantern's origin has been displayed so many times in comic books and cartoons that I'm sick of it! Oi! What were they thinking? I still loved the film, I was just expecting more. My relatives in Germany will be getting a 'Green Lantern' DVD as soon as one comes out." -- Liebe Quell, 34, Arlington
