Green Mile Actors and Their Characters
Stephen King's "The Green Mile" is Brought to Life by an Award Winning Cast of Actors
1. Tom Hanks. In 1935 Paul Edgecomb works as a corrections officer in charge of Death Row inmates at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. His cell block is known as the Green Mile because of the faded green that is the last mile a condemned man walks. His life is changed forever when the prisoner John Coffey arrives.
2. Michael Clarke Duncan. John Coffey, a very large but mild mannered black condemned prisoner convicted of raping and murdering two young white sisters awaits death on the Green Mile. He lays hands on Paul Edgecomb and instantly cures his serious urinary infection by taking the infection through his own body.
3. David Morse. A seasoned and reliable corrections officer who guards the Green Mile and participates in the executions.
4. Bonnie Hunt. Jan Edgecomb is the loving and supportive wife of corrections officer Paul Edgecomb.
5. James Cromwell. Warden Hal Moores, at Cold Mountain Penitentiary, is forced to watch helplessly as his wife is slowly dying of a brain tumor.
6. Patricia Clarkson. Melinda Moores is the wife of the warden who is dying from a brain tumor until John Coffey is brought by those guarding him to save her life.
7. Doug Hutchinson. Percy Wetmore is the newest and most problematic member of the correction officers on the Green Mile whose uncle, in a position of influence, got him the job.
8. Harry Dean Stanton. Toot-Toot is a condemned man awaiting execution on the Green Mile who is often the stand in when the officers rehearsed an execution.
9. Sam Rockwell. Wild Bill Wharton is the most evil character and the most dangerous inmate on the Green Mile with a history of fighting with and trying to trick guards.
10. Michael Jeter. Eduard 'Del' Delacroix is another condemned inmate awaiting execution on the Green Mile who befriends a small mouse he makes into a pet and trains to do tricks.
