Paper is an Important Area to Get Green in the Office
Its very important to try and recycle and reuse paper in any office. If everyone in the office has easy access to a paper recycle bin paper gets recycled. Especially important is having a bin next to the copier and fax machine.
Reusing the back of paper that was printed helps cut back expense and waste of paper in the office for those print jobs for internal or personal use. Also not printing everything for paper files helps cut back use of this important resource.
Saving trees and the use of harsh chemicals will help the environment and cut back on cost.
Stop Wasting Electricity
Pay attention to the thermostat in your office. Open windows on cool fall or spring days. This will let the fresh air in. If you can't open windows then keep the thermostat turned up to 74-77 degrees. Another way to relieve the air conditioning unit is to use fans.
Turn off lights in common areas when not using the bathrooms, employee lounge, closets and un-used offices.
Cutting back on electricity not only saves oil but water as well. Most electrical plants use lots of water to keep the plant running and cuts back on company expenses.
Don't Waste Water
If you don't have water saver toilets switch them out or if not put a couple bricks in the tank and cut back on water that is used. Water saves electricity and by not flushing gallons of extra not needed water down the drain will help in keeping your cost down both directly and indirectly.
Don't water the lawn unnecessarily. Put your sprinklers on a timer and sprinkle early in the morning before the sun has time to rob the grass of water through condensation. Also be a good corporate neighbor by not watering everyday. If possible dig a pond and pump the water through your irrigation system. This will reuse a precious resource over and over while keeping the grass and your image green.
Use Recyclable Materials Especially Food Containers
Send a notice around to all employees about using recyclable materials to bring their lunch in. If they go out to lunch ask them to favor food businesses that use recyclable materials for carry out.
Remind everyone in the office how important it is to recycle, reuse and recover resources to make the office green. This helps everyone and we a ll need it during these times of economic recovery.
