I love Thai food and I'm very excited to share this Green Papaya Salad with you. I order this salad a lot when I go to the Thai restaurant. When I tried making it at home with this recipe it was just as good as in the restaurant.
Ingredients
2 cups green papaya, shredded
1 1/2 TBS Palm Sugar (The Palm sugar at the store is pretty expensive and I think regular sugar would do)
1 small lime
6 green beans (fresh, not from a can)
1 clove garlic
1 1/2 TBS fish sauce
1 TBS dried shrimp
2 chili peppers
5 cherry tomatoes
Where to buy the ingredients
I went to one Chinese grocery store and they sold the green papaya already shredded. I went to another Chinese grocery store and they didn't, so I had to buy the whole green papaya and shred it myself. If you are lucky and find it sold at the store shredded it will save a lot of preparation time. The rest of the ingredients can also be found at a Chinese grocery store or other Asian grocery store.
How to Make it
If you aren't lucky enough to find the green papaya shredded you will need to shred it yourself. I used a cheese grater to shred mine.
Put the shredded green papaya in a medium sized bowl. Add the palm sugar, juice of one small lime, and fish sauce. Stir together.
Cut the 6 green beans into small pieces and add to the salad.
Mince the garlic and add to the salad.
Cut the chili peppers and add to the salad. Depending on how spicy you want the salad, more or less chili peppers can be used. I used only 1 small chili pepper and it tasted a little spicy.
Add the cherry tomatoes to the salad. Stir lightly to mix salad.
Add the dried shrimp on top as a garnish.
Refrigerate the salad for 20 minutes and eat. Yum, Yum, Yum.
Salad serves 2-4.
I made this salad for my family for Christmas and it was a favorite among them. It's very healthy and very flavorful.
