Spring is a great time to try moving towards a raw food diet. Many healthy and delicious vegetables are starting to ripen, and some early fruits are also available. You can enjoy nature's spring bounty with the easiest raw diet trick there is: green smoothies.

Green smoothies are basic raw fruit smoothies with a few green vegetables tossed in. These drinks pack a powerful health punch and are a simple way to transition into a raw foods diet. You can drink a delicious green smoothie every morning made from spring fruits and vegetables as your breakfast. Some people even enjoy drinking these raw vegetable smoothies for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Here are three basic green smoothie recipes for your jump into spring raw food eating.

Strawberry Surprise

In warmer areas strawberries start coming into their own by mid to late spring. You can use these first berries to make some incredibly delicious green smoothies.

1 cup sliced strawberries
1/2 cup raw baby spinach leaves
1/2 cup orange juice

Pour the juice into your blender, then add the strawberries and spinach. Blend until it is well liquefied, then serve cold. Some people add ice cubes to their smoothies to chill the drinks more, however this will also dilute the flavor some. Use at your discretion. Serves 2.

Spicy Apricot Mango

This is a raw food recipe that mixes the sweet with the slightly spicy to make an incredible drink experience.

1 apricot, peeled and sliced
1 mango, peeled and sliced
1 cup mustard greens
1/2 cup collard greens

Place your greens into the blender first, then add sliced fruit. Blend until thoroughly liquefied. If your fruits are not quite juicy enough it can cause this drink to be very thick. Add more fruit juice or water to make the smoothie less thick and easier to drink. Serves 2.

Tropical Mixer

This smoothie combines tropical fruits that you can usually find during the spring with just a hint of sweet carrots. Though this smoothie is not technically green, it is still a great raw food recipe that you will enjoy.

1 mango, peeled and sliced
1 cup diced pineapple, with juice
2 large carrots, sliced

Pineapple can be very juicy, use this to your advantage when making this smoothie. Add your pineapple with juice to the blender, next add mango and carrot slices. Blend until liquefied. Serves 2.

These three basic spring raw food recipes make getting your vegetables delicious and transitioning to a raw foods diet easy. Experiment with the different fruits and vegetables that you find when shopping. You never know what you may enjoy.
