Green Tea Super Food Smoothie Recipe

I am a green tea convert. Not only is there a wide variety of flavor choices, green tea has health benefits I can not ignore. Studies have shown that the antioxidants in green tea build immunity, boosts metabolism and increases fat oxidation in the body. Those are pretty powerful perks. Other studies give green tea credit for lowering cholesterol and blood pressure while reducing the risk of developing cancer and Alzheimer's. All this and it is one of the least expensive and versatile super foods available.

Throughout the winter I can sip on hot tea throughout the day, but in the spring and summer I get my green tea fix by using it in place of water or milk in my smoothies.

Smoothies are a great way to incorporate many different super foods into your diet, because of this my commercial grade blender is my favorite appliance. The base for many of my smoothie recipes starts with green tea and frozen bananas. For the tea, I simply add tea bags, or loose tea to make a tea pot full each morning. The bananas are purchased in bulk, peeled and placed in a container in the freezer until I need them. Ripe bananas are generally marked down, so stock up.

The basic green tea super food smoothie recipe includes just a few ingredients. Feel free to substitute or add additional items for flavor. You can even turn this into a healthy chocolate dessert by adding an additional frozen banana, pure cocoa powder and extra ice. The consistency will rival ice cream. Only you have to know it is healthy.

Basic Green Tea Super Food Smoothie Recipe

Ingredients
2 cups green tea (experiment with flavored green tea such as mint, ginger, ginseng, lemon or jasmine)
1 frozen banana
1/2 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
1 cup ice

Optional additions
1 scoop protein powder or green powder for extra nutritional punch
Yogurt
Handful of spinach
Chia seeds
Ginger
Cinnamon, or other spices
Canned pumpkin

Blend until smooth. Enjoy right away. This makes a filling breakfast, lunch or dessert. Super foods are not difficult to incorporate into you daily diet when you create a delicious custom-made smoothie.
