Green Technology in Your Car Without Sacrificing Design and Performance

Shawn Thomas
In recent years due to the increase of oil and gasoline prices and continuing awareness about the environment, new efficient cars have been emerging. Several companies are tackling the problems of fuel efficiency without sacrificing car performance.

Tesla Motors is a company looking to produce a high-performance electric sports car, and is has just one motor the rotor. The Tesla Roadster is able to go from 0 to 60 in 4 seconds making it competitive with Porsche and Lamborghini models. It also has 100 miles per gallon which is more than double than most current hybrids available. The battery pack has lithium ion battery technology, is light, durable, and recyclable. The battery stores enough energy for the vehicle to travel about 220 miles without the need for a recharge. The base price for the Tesla Roadster is $109,000 however it will not be available for 12 months until after you place your order.

Aptera Motors is a maker of high-efficiency vehicles and the first car being produced is a three-wheeled two-seater named the Typ-1. The first operating prototype achieved more than 230 miles per gallon. The actual miles per gallon achieved depend on the use of the car. At 55 miles per gallon the hybrid has 130 miles per gallon. The pre-charged batteries are able to run the hybrid for around the first 60 miles allowing for nearly 300 miles per gallon to be achieved on trips less than 100 miles.

The Typ-1 accelerates from 0-60 mph in less than 10 seconds and has a top speed of 85 miles per hour. Best of all both the all electric and plug in hybrid models cost less than $30,000.

Fisker is a green American sports car company who aims to be environmentally friendly without compromise of appearance leaving a beautiful package. They believe that environmentally friendly, plug-in hybrid cars need not be bland in design. The first design i the Fisker Karma and delivers such remarkable proportions for a four-door sports sedan. The design is sleek and accents the long hood. With the Fisker car people can drive for up to 50 miles a day with only an electric charge the previous night. They believe that this will be enough for the majority of consumers who often spend the most time driving to and from work and to pick up their kids and go shopping.

All three companies discussed aim to ease the pollution and emissions faced by cars today. Not only are they allowing consumers to save big on fuel costs, they are protecting the environment for future generations. Green technologies are a hot commodity in today's world. People are recognizing the importance of clean fuel, and improved miles per gallon. As technology continues to grow it is inevitable that one day oil dependence will be a thing of the past.
