Green Thumb

Helping Your One and Only Planet

TJ Garcia
Going Green, that is on everyone's mind now days. It's really nice to see how many people are finally taking charge of this way of life and helping out. Some say it's to late, but it is never to late. This is our one and only planet which we will have to live on till the end of time. It's kind of funny to see people get upset because you tracked dirt on their carpet or made a little mess in their house, yet they produce tons of trash, use up water and electricity, so why not treat our planet the same why you treat your house? After all, your real home is Earth.

Now, don't get upset at me because I pointed something like this out. I know it's not the case with everyone out there but it is for some. I hope by reading this, it will make you realize that your home isn't confined inside your walls and roof, its everywhere. Heck, I was once like that many years ago but after my eyes were open I quickly changed. I now use only compact fluorescent light bulbs, I contacted my city waste service to set up a recycling bin outside my house and started to keep as many things possible off in my house, such as turning my PC off when I won't be using it for awhile. I also cut back on water usage, my little way of doing that is making it like a game in a way. Every bill I get I look at the gallons and try to beat that, lowering it of course, then I think of it as if I was playing World of Warcraft and level up. If you are trying to cut back on water, I recommend you keep looking at your statements to see if you are or not.

I understand not everyone can go out and buy all of these green items, such as electric cars, solar panels, etc. I know I can't, but I made sure and read the stats on the car I bought that was in my budget. I looked at a lot of them and picked the best one that used to least amount of gas. Also, if you read your vehicle booklet, at least mine had this, it gave a interesting little tip/fact about the weight inside your car. The more you have packed in your car the more gas you'll burn. So, I try to make sure I remove as much as I can unless it's something I need. But, the best and the most cheapest is your local rapid area transit system.

I found this a kind of funny when I heard a person say this, why do we call it green? Isn't green the color of money? Well, yes it is but green is also the color of our plants which covers our world, it's a sign of life. People lost in a desert have been taught to search for spots of green, because there is life there and water. So green can be a life saver when everything else around you is a wasteland. But, we don't want to just have a little spot to save us, we want to take the wasteland back so that we don't have to look for a patch of green. We will always be saved and surrounded in green life.

I hope I pursued some of you that haven't fully gone green or the ones needing tips. I was like you at first, but because of all the wide information out there that we have access to on the Internet, I found tips and I keep finding new ones everyday. There is even a channel on cable dedicated to green, showing ideas and even a game show that takes little facts and turns it into a game so you can get into it.

Remember, Earth is your home, it is our home. You wouldn't want your house to be trashed, so lets not trash our home, the one home for us all.
