Green Works Vs. Seventh Generation

A Review of a "Green" Cleaning Product for the Environment

Sea Shepherd
Finding a cleaning product that is good for the environment that won't cost you an arm and a leg is hard to find. However, Green Works natural all -purpose cleaner by Clorox fits the bill. Prior to using Green Works I was using a Seventh Generation product which is also good for the environment but cost more than a dollar and a half over other non-green cleaners. I mean, you want to be a good steward for the environment and yet you are also trying to watch your pennies in this high inflationary period we are experiencing as consumers. Green Works cost is about a dollar less than Seventh Generation and about fifty cents more than the average cleaning product. And it works just as well as Seventh Generation all Purpose Cleaner.

Both products will give you a nice fresh fragrance afterwards. However, I noticed that Green Works has a delicate scent of lemon. Sometimes companies think all consumers need are strong fragrances in their products to make them "think" something is clean. The fragrance of Green Works is so light that I had to spray and smell it twice to determine what that fragrance was.

Green Works all purpose cleaner is made up of plant and mineral based ingredients like coconut-based cleaning agents (nonionic surfactant), corn based ethanol, essential lemon oil, filtered water and biodegradable preservatives. There is no animal testing nor phosphorus or bleach.

Seventh Generation's all purpose cleaner is made up of plant-derived surfactants (for soil removal), natural alkalinity builder for enhanced performance (sodium citrate and sodium carbonate), Preservatives (less than 0.05%), Water. It has no fragrance.

Both do the same job. And for the difference of about a dollar and a half over regular cleaners, Green Works wins hands down. Both brands have a variety line of cleaning products for the bathroom, laundry, and your kitchen.

Did you know Clorox acquired Burt's Bees company? Clorox is really trying to go green. It's not there completely but it is going in the right direction. Even the Sierra Club is endorsing Clorox Green Works according to Treehuggers.com. It is the first time a non profit organization gave it's blessing on a cleaning product. The Sierra Club is even allowing Clorox to use their logo on Green Works. Now, I don't see it there yet. However, Sierra Club's Conservation Director, Greg Haegele, blogs for TreeHugger.com so it must be true.

I am definitely satisfied with Green Works performance. What really excites me the most is that for the first time; I don't feel that I have to pay a high premium to go green for a cleaning product. This is the first Green Works product I bought. I did glance over the other Green Works products in the aisle of the grocery store and the price savings is the same compared to Seventh Generation. Go Green with Green Works!

Great review! I use homemade cleaners, but if I ever feel like using a pre-made formula, I'll know the comparisons. Thanks. :-)
