Glass
One of the most common materials used for greenhouse glazing is glass. Glass is a very cheap option and very easy to maintain. It also retains heat well and is transparent so plenty of light can penetrate. You also don't have to worry about glass becoming discolored over time.
The main disadvantage of glass is that it is very fragile. It can break very easily. When it breaks, you will need to have it fixed immediately or heat will escape through the damaged pane.
Fiberglass
One of the next common greenhouse materials is fiberglass. Fiberglass is stronger than glass, so you don't have to worry about it breaking easily. The main disadvantage is that it costs more. You will also need to resurface it every ten years or so.
Plexiglass
Greenhouse glazing can also be made from polycarbonate or plexiglass. This double-wall plastic provides excellent insulation and is very durable, so you don't have to worry about it breaking. However, it's more opaque than glass or fiberglass, so not as much light will be able to penetrate. It's also the most expensive option.
Film
One of the final greenhouse materials is plastic film. This is the cheapest option and is very flexible and easy to install and replace. You may even have the skills necessary to install it yourself.
The main disadvantage of using plastic film for greenhouse glazing is that it is even more fragile than glass. You need to be very careful or you'll tear it easily. Also, the film will become discolored over time and reduce the amount of light that can penetrate.
These are some of the different types of greenhouse glazing materials. Glass allows plenty of light to come through and is easy to maintain, but can break easily. Plexiglass is more durable, but is more opaque so not as much light can get through.
