Collections
The permanent collections at Greenville County Museum of Art are primarily concerned with art from the American south, ranging from period pieces created during the colonial era on through to some of the more recent works of southern artists such as Jasper Johns. Thankfully, the museum has a wide collection of contemporary pieces from a variety of locations as well, including works by Eric Fischl, Josef Josef Albers, Andy Warhol and Romare Bearden , amongst many others. The museum has a particular focus on Andrew Wyeth. A particularly interesting exhibit that is on display from now through July 27, 2009 is "Ideas Distanced from Objects," a refreshingly abstract exhibit with intriguing works by a number of contemporary American artists.
