Greer Park Dedication Ceremony December 11
Neighborhood: Palo Alto
Palo Alto, CA 94301
United States of America
Back in the sixties where the Palo Alto Drive-in used to be, a community park transition began that would take until now to complete. After the City of Palo Alto purchased that land--and subsequently adjacent acreage--in 1974 a "Master Plan was designed for the development of the 22.3 acres" of what is now known as Greer Park, originally dedicated on June 16, 1975.

This started what would turn into a three and a half decade pursuit for completion by the tireless efforts of many, including midtown residents Jean and Charles Scott. Every year when our residents made a step forward to complete the park, funding was pulled for one reason or another, leaving the final phase of Greer Park as an unsightly weedy storage and sandbag facility for the city. "Midtown residents' top priority was to complete the undeveloped acreage at Greer Park".

The dream is finally a reality. Sadly, Jean Scott passed away last year and will not be here to witness the results of her years of dedication. The Midtown Residents Association "wishes to dedicate this last portion, Phase IV, to Jean's memory and to Charles who stood firm and was outspoken to the end to make this happen."

"This parkland dedication to the Scotts will be a lasting tribute to their tenacious spirit-a source of inspiration to all who follow in their footsteps. They hoped to see their grandchildren be able to see the park finally completed. MRA would like all generations of the Scotts to have a permanent reminder of their life-long commitment to completing Greer Park for the benefit of their neighbors."

Please join Midtown residents for the dedication ceremony of Greer Park December 11th at 1pm, 2010.
