Meredith and Lexi are both quirky and have impeccable timing. They both talk really fast and dramatic. Lexi chose to reveal her sisterhood with Meredith on the brisk of a multi-person trauma entering Seattle Grace. Only a Grey would have made this kind of entrance. In addition, both Lexi and Meredith befriended George. George may fall for Lexi, like he did with Meredith, or she may be his confidante. Both Meredith and Lexi also met McDreamy at the bar, making impressions on him right away. The obvious career choice also lends itself to a comparison of the two sisters.
The odds are stacked against them, however, of building a lasting relationship of ice-cream eating, movies and family dinners (at least in the current season). Mr. Grey is furious with Meredith for what happened to his wife (Lexi's Mother) when Meredith assured Lexis's mother that she was going in for a routine procedure. The death compelled Mr. Grey to verbally blast his daughter in front of her colleagues and damage Meredith further. How will Lexi react to finding out about these incidents? Also, can Meredith ever mend her relationship with their father?
McDreamy also presents a problem. He fell for one Grey and hit on the other at the bar. With him and Meredith constantly "breaking up", hooking up and then fighting again, Lexi could be waiting with open arms, especially if Meredith continues to show a cold shoulder to her half-sister. Lexi also could infiltrate Meredith's circle of friends (George, Izzie, Alex, and maybe even Christina). George may be the key to forging a relationship between the two sisters as Meredith cares greatly for him.
Meredith should be able to get past her jealous of Lexi. She had started to get close to Lexi's mother before her death, having dinner parties and talking frequently. Lexi's mother reached out to Meredith, similar to how it appears Lexi is reaching out to her sister. Meredith may be damaged, but with Lexi's perkiness, implied innocence (she may not be as innocent as we believe right now), and a possible reconciliation with her father, there is hope for the two sisters to grow closer. One thing is for sure: If you thought the Grey's family drama was over when Meredith and Lexis' mothers passed away last season, you were sorrowly mistaken. The show title, Grey's Anatomy, may be a double entendre (a surgical book and Meredith's family), but the latter appears to be remaining strong and as controversial and dramatic as ever.
