Grey Holiday: The Glorious Revolution

Have you ever listened to an album and from the very first note you just fell head over heels for it? That is what will happen when you listen to Grey Holiday's debut EP, The Glorious Revolution.Packed with not only six wonderful songs, but additional videos, and interview with an English accented Nigel (actually the bass man R.T. Bodet) offer an in depth look at the band and their personal history, a song writing journal, pictures and lots more. This EP introduces Grey Holiday to the masses in a spirited way that will lift the heart. Originating from Texas, Grey Holiday is comprised of four individuals who have been friends and the collaboration of this team makes it all the sweeter. Who says friends cannot work together to make a successful album? Sometimes in the music world, people start out as friends and end up being enemies. Look at the Beatles; it happened to them. But for Grey Holiday, the combination seems to work.

The foursome has put together a strong album despite the fact that two of the artists are playing instruments they never played prior to joining the band. Truly impressive. From the resultant sound, you would never have guessed considering the more than able drum and keyboard work displayed here.

Already topping the Christian charts, "Let Go" is a catchy little tune that will have you singing right along with Grey Holiday. I'm particularly fond of the lyric regarding a "ponytail to my knees" because it brought back memories of the "long haired" musicians of my era. Similarly, "Where You Want Me" is a well-constructed tune. With uplifting lyrics and a killer hook you'll find yourself singing along before the song is completed; and just in case you miss the words the bonus video puts the words there just for you to sing. With lyrics discussing faith, the struggle with the worldly and not wanting to miss what the world has to offer and how it can break a person only to bring them closer to their faith, this is a solid track.

When the song "You Belong To Me" begins, you might find yourself reminiscing back to the glory days of Journey. With familiar keyboards opening up the song, Matt Minors' honey-soaked vocals start the ballad. Minors' possesses a great voice that shines in this beautiful song about a wounded soul that comes back to the faith and the need to belong to something beyond. That something, God, is calling the soul to come back to where it belongs; to the only one that offers love that has been there all along. What an uplifting song by Grey Holiday!

For me, this album is one of my favorites, and Grey Holiday is proof that this genre can offer a solid collection of music while avoiding the shoe gazing depression and angst of so much that is offered. When a struggle is experienced in life, there is in some way a positive outcome and this music keeps the heart beating, drawing one toward a closer walk of faith. Grey Holiday's The Glorious Revolution is a winner and will definitely leave you wanting more.
