Grey's Anatomy: Are Callie and Arizona Leaving Seattle Grace for Africa?

The 6th episode of "Grey's Anatomy" Season 7 has viewers worried that Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) might be leaving Seattle Grace and the hit TV show for good. During the episode, which was filmed like a documentary instead of the usual style, it was revealed that Arizona had been approved for a grant which she applied for before meeting and beginning a relationship with Callie.

Callie didn't take the news well, naturally; some of the biggest plot lines for the couple have involved décor, Callie's friendship with Mark (Eric Dane), and other domestic problems. The potential move to Africa marks the first real problem the pair has seen during the Season 7 of "Grey's Anatomy." Instead of recovering from the trauma of the epic Season 6 finale, the couple has focused on more simplistic problems-until now.

According to TV Guide, Sara Ramirez had quite a bit to say about the plot twist: "Callie really doesn't want to go, but in order to be with Arizona, they decide to go together." During the episode, it was very obvious that Callie didn't want to see Arizona go to Africa, but she seemed excited when they decided to go together. "Callie (was) caught in that thing where you love somebody so much you don't want to tell them the truth," she explained to TV Guide, as quoted on Yahoo!

TV Guide reported that Capshaw recently gave birth to her second child, which may explain the need for some time off the set of "Grey's Anatomy." However, that doesn't explain a disappearance on the part of Ramirez, which leads me to believe something will prevent Callie from joining Arizona in Africa-or staying there, at least. "It turns into a very rough road," Ramirez offered. "Because Callie wasn't very honest from the beginning, it bites her in the butt."

Her interview with TV Guide indicated that the road ahead for Callie and Arizona will be a rocky one: "Once again we find ourselves at an impasse where we're not sure if they're going to make it." Could fans really expect anything less from master storyteller and drama peddler Shonda Rhimes? The interpersonal relationships seem to be one of the biggest lures for the "Grey's Anatomy" fan-base; personally, I avoid medical dramas like the plague, but something in the addictive stories and believably flawed characters had me hooked from episode one.

"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursday at 9/8C on ABC. If you missed the Season 7 premiere, check out my teasers without spoilers here on AC, or follow my blog over on Starpulse for complete recaps of every "Grey's Anatomy" episode.
