Before I got a chance to watch it, I overheard someone say that it was like a horror movie and that was a pretty accurate description. From beginning to end, the episode was a bloodbath. Michael O'Neill gave a performance as Mr. Clark that was reminiscent of John Lithgow's portrayal of the Trinity killer in last season's "Dexter." He was completely bone chilling and ominous. Within the first 10 minutes, he had shot Alex and Reed, who frankly will probably not be missed by anyone. But that definitely set the tone for the rest of the episode. No one was safe.
And that was only the beginning. No "Grey's" episode is complete without some major romantic drama and the finale had about all the drama you could ask for. Lexie had to choose between Alex and Mark. Owen between Christina and Teddy. Callie and Arizona patched things up. And Meredith got pregnant and miscarried all before the end of the finale.
What will happen when the dust settles on Seattle Grace? For one, we should probably brace ourselves for major Meredith and Derek issues and we probably should have seen it coming since no one on this show is allowed to be happy. I give it about half of season 7 of Meredith moping around about the baby she lost before Derek finds out she was pregnant to begin with.
WIll Teddy leave now that Owen made his choice? Probably not. That would be too easy and she was just hired. Ultimately, the triangle will just shift and Christina will end up having to choose between Owen, whom she loves, and Teddy, whom has been her greatest teacher since Burke left.
What does the future hold for Little Grey and the two womanizers of the hospital? I have a feeling this story isn't over yet. Clearly, Alex isn't over Izzie and Mark probably won't give up so easily. The second saddest moment of the episode was seeing his face when Lexie told Alex she loved him.
The first belongs to Bailey. Chandra Wilson is easily the most talented actress on the show, possibly the entire network. There are no words to describe how sad it was for her to have to give up on Charles. This will probably have some consequences for her next season. There was definitely some hints of survivor's guilt associated with her lying and saying she was a nurse and ultimately having to watch one of her own die in her arms.
"Grey's Anatomy" can go a little overboard at times but this episode was done so well that the little farfetched plot twists are forgiven. Because we live in a world where incidents like that happen all the time. Lone gunmen with a grudge shoot up schools and malls and museums. Yet they managed to take something were totally desensitized to and make it real.
