Grey's Anatomy, Season 4 Premiere: My Review

The Grey's Anatomy season 4 premiere was Thursday, September 27, on ABC, and I must say, it was rather interesting. I went into this season as a former lover of the show and current skeptic, due to some of the strange turns it took in season 3. I am not totally convinced the show has come back from last year's rather disappointing season, but I am giving it a few episodes to redeem itself.

Season 3 was an interesting season and it started off well but after the episode where Meredith almost drowned and after 3 hours of being unconscious and hypothermic she comes back to life as if nothing happened really changed my take on the show and a took a drastic turn. I love the drama and unexpected twists the show presents on a weekly basis but this really had me wondering. The episode following her near death experience it was barely mentioned and she was fine with no repercussions. I understand its make believe TV but come on there has to be a certain reality factor to it!!

I was also rather disappointed in the season 3 finale. The season 2 finale was exhilarating and left you on the edge of your seat needing to know what happens next and the thrill and excitement of wanting Meredith and McDreamy to end up together it was a wonderful season finale. The season 3 finale left you feeling angry it was so sad in that all of the relationships were dissolving and due to the real life media coverage you knew certain characters were not coming back that kind of left a sour taste in my mouth as well.

The season 4 premiere was actually quite good. They have introduced a bunch of new characters to the show as the new interns and also answered some unresolved questions from the season 3 finale. Here are some of the key points of the season 4 premiere:

Dr. Burke is off of the show as we knew from the real life media coverage and they really didn't say too much about it but you can tell even from Christina's hard core she is heart broken and it will be interesting to see how they redirect her character.

George, after learning he failed is internship test last season has returned this season as a first year intern under Meredith's direction. He also is dealing with the connection he feels towards Izzy stemming from their steamy encounter in Season 3 and professed love from her which he reconfirms back to her in the last scene of the show.

Meredith and McDreamy avoid each other most of the episode until the last scene in which they are discussing their relationship and decide breaking up in the best solution however they end the scene in a romantic embrace of "break-up sex" which left me questioning how this relationship will pan out this season. Meredith is also dealing with the fact her half sister Lexie is one of the interns in the hospital this season.

Miranda and Callie are going at it most of the episode since we learned in season 3 that Callie was promoted to chief resident and Miranda feels she deserved the position more.

This sums up most of the main characters in the show and one thing which really threw me off was that not once did they mention Addison Montgomery. In the season 3 finale she left on a break to go to California but they didn't even mention her in this premiere as to the fact she is gone for good and permanently to California as we have learned from the season premiere of her spin off Private Practice which airs on Wednesday nights on ABC.

This premiere was very interesting it helped to answer a lot of questions that lingered after the season 3 finale but I really am not too sure how I feel about the direction of the season and I sure hope they redeem themselves this year!!!
