Grey's Anatomy Season 5 Premiere

Diana Frame
As a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy I watched the season 5 premier Thursday night (Sept. 25) with great anticipation to see what my friends at Seattle Grace would be up to for the new season.

The main plot line of Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Dr. McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey) looks like it (finally) will be moving past the "loves me/loves me not" stage into something definitive. Even though the writers seem to be having a hard time getting Meredith to move on, you can only pull those petals off the daisy so many times.

It looks like Yang (Sandra Oh) may be getting a new love interest. Hopefully Yang will let go of her bitterness over the failed relationship with Burke (Isiah Washington). It will be good to see a new story line for Yang as she, along with many of the other characters were getting a bit blah last season.

Another new development is the apparent lesbian relationship between Dr. Torres (Sara Ramirez) and Dr. Hahn (Brooke Smith). This one I find a little far-fetched but I guess anything is possible. I'm not sure if the writers are implying that Dr. Torres has "turned" lesbian as a result of her failed marriage to George (T.R. Knight) or that we're just seeing an abrupt "revelation."

As for the rest of the cast it looks like the musical chairs relationships continue -- Izzie (Katherine Heigl) is making eyes at Alex (Justin Chambers) again. Hopefully Alex's character will develop into more than just the "angry guy" that has plagued his character throughout the last 4 seasons. It would be good to see something more from him. And George (T.R. Knight) is being seduced by last season's newcomer, Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh). Hopefully we'll see these two rather "spineless" characters develop over the season.

Although there were no indications of what lies ahead for Dr. Bailey (Chandra Wilson) I'm sure she won't be forgotten since she provides such a strong presence in the cast.

This 2-hour season opener seemed to be more of a "welcome back" to all the character lines without offering anything earth shattering and it was somewhat disappointing to find out that there will not be another show for 2 weeks. While season 4 was a little slow (and shortened by the writer's strike) I thought the first 3 seasons were quite good and can only hope the writers will be able to repeat that for season 5.

I was very bored with the show and won't be bothered with it anymore. I sick of this on again off again with Meredith and Derek. It's getting really old having Meredith wringing her hands all the time over the relationship. I don't much like any of the characters anymore.
