Cristina and Burke were set to wed on the season finale. It was clear from the beginning of this engagement that Burke would be in charge of the wedding details while Cristina continued focusing on her medical career. Theirs was a role reversal. And yet, Christina was all set to walk down the aisle after a short delay and breakdown due to the loss of her wedding vows. It was this delay that decided the fate for these two though, and Burke in an act of classic strength told Christina if he truly loved her he would not make her marry him when she clearly didn't want to. However, the heartbreaking moment was when Cristina back in her apartment knew Burke was truly gone. Her emotional breakdown had us sympathizing with this woman who had always portrayed such strength.
Meredith and McDreamy have had their ups and downs lately. He not feeling that she ever lets him into her life has come to his wits end and confronts her with the opportunity to flirt with another woman. She fights back telling him to just break up with her if that's what he wants. However, in an act of sincerity he doesn't want that, Meredith is the love of his love. But if she can't let him in to put him out of his misery. Meredith avoids the question with the task of Cristina's wedding. However, when the wedding ends in ruins Meredith's faith is shattered in the idea of love. Her comment that if Cristina can do it any of them can, leaves us all with the horrible feeling that the McDreamy/Meredith love story is quickly coming to a close. Can't there ever be a happy ending for these two? We won't know until next season.
Izzie and George have been fighting their feelings for awhile now. George for the fact that he's obviously married to Callie. Izzie because she doesn't want to lose George as a friend and knows that he is married. However, Izzie comes clean in the episode and confesses her true love to George and ends with a statement "I hope you love me too." This moment is interrupted by frenzied preparations for the wedding. It is during this time that the results from the Intern exams are communicated. George has failed and has the choice to either repeat his year as an Intern or walk away from his medical career. In addition to all this turmoil Callie and George have made the decision to have a baby. Where does this love triangle end up? And what will George do now that he's leaving his Medical career?
