Grey's Anatomy: Season Finale Recap

Questions Leave Viewers Wanting More

Kristina Jones
During the season finale of Grey's Anatomy, viewers were left with all sorts of questions about the future of the interns. The season finale of Grey's Anatomy ran fifteen minutes longer than normal and the longer show was full of drama and emotions. From the Chief's wife's miscarriage to the questioning of Meredith and McDreamy's future to the surprising end of a wedding, the show never failed to give viewers wanting more from their favorite interns.

When the Chief's wife entered Seattle's Grace Hospital during the previous week's episode, viewers were giving the impression her pregnancy was the result of her leaving the Chief on a previous season. Viewers were in for a surprise as the show made its way through the dramatic ups and downs of the season finale. When everyone believed the Chief would remain without his wife, the writers of Grey's Anatomy through viewers through a loop. When the storm of the miscarriage passed, it became evident the Chief and his estranged wife were looking to patch things up. After all, if the Chief's wife would have been able to carry the baby to term, it would have been his baby.

With all of the commotion of Christina and Burke's upcoming wedding, viewers were forced to endure another week of Meredith and Derek's up and down relationship. For those who had not watched the show in the preceding weeks, Meredith and Derek's relationship had been on the brink of disaster, following the near fatal drowning of Meredith and the deaths of both her mother and step-mother. When Derek mentioned he had been flirtatious with another woman, it raised some concern for Meredith. Derek made it very clear Meredith should be worried about the direction of their relationship. When questioned about the security of her devotion to Derek, Meredith side-stepped the question and used Christina and Burke's wedding as an excuse to leave him hanging. Viewers just cannot help themselves from questioning the point of the two even being a couple. Fortunately, there's a new season to look forward to next year.

Poor George can never get a break. He has been hounded by his best friend, Izzie Stevens, who just happened to let him know she is head over heels in love with him, even though she knows he is married. Prior to finding out Izzie's true feelings about him, George and his wife, Callie, had decided to try to have a baby and just happened to give it a shot in one of the break rooms. Unfortunately, George might want to reconsider planning a family after finding out he failed his intern exam which gave George yet another choice, quit at being a doctor or restart his internship. Hopefully, George will not give up yet, he is after all, one of the more levelheaded interns at Seattle Grace Hospital.

Throughout the season finale, viewers had to endure the chief making his decision for a replacement in short increments. Surely, most viewers believed either Dr. Sloan, also known as McSteamy, or Dr. Burke would be the more likely replacements. After Doctors Sloan and Burke were eliminated from the pool, only Derek Shepherd and Addison Montgomery remained in the race. At the end of the show, viewers found out the chief preferred Dr. Shepherd and were left with an even bigger surprise. Dr. Shepherd declined the Chief's offer and handed back the job, believing the Chief was the only man for the job.

Dr. Alex Karev was in for a shocker. He had been caring for a woman, who recently gave birth and overcame amnesia. When her husband came to pick her up from the hospital, after a long stay, Alex wanted to keep the woman in his care. The timing could not be any worse for Alex. After being rejected by Izzie Stevens and then rejecting Addison Montgomery, Alex finally found someone he could connect with on an intimate level. It was not until he was at the church for Christina's wedding that he realized how he really felt. Unfortunately, by the time he returned to the hospital, she was gone.

Finally, the big day has come for Christina Yang and Preston Burke. What was thought to be a great event, in the closing minutes, became a tragic one. When Christina finds the vows she had written on the palm of her hand had been scrubbed off, she flies into panic mode. As soon as Meredith is able to calm Christina down, Preston Burke has made it to the back of the church and questioned the heart of Christina. Burke finds he cannot marry Christina because she is not 100% sure if she really wants him. This leaves Meredith with the task of letting all of the wedding guests know the wedding is over. When Christina returns to the apartment she shared with Burke, she finds he has left her completely and spirals into a breakdown. This was a very important moment for Christina, who has been completely emotionless throughout the series. Hopefully, she will be able to pick herself up and not spiral downward like Izzie Stevens.

In the closing minutes of the season finale of Grey's Anatomy, viewers were introduced to the new class of interns. These new interns made their first stop in the locker room, where George was packing up his things. He was approached by one of the new interns who was looking for some advice. The only advice George had was to know how to do a complete appendectomy on the first day. When he offered his name to the young intern, she shed some light on what the new season brings. The new intern is Lacey Grey, yes, Meredith Grey's younger half-sister. Viewers can only imagine the drama to come in the next season as Meredith will be forced to make decisions about her family.

this is such a rip-off of the ER episode with Gant's death. The staff working to save the life of the unknown patient to the order "page Gant", to the pager sounding off in the emergency room and finally to the staff realizing Gant was the anonymous patient

I am from South Africa. I am a drama student and i love this show more than anyone. It captivates me with its combination of both romance and medical drama. I am 15 years old and one day you'll see me on this show.

I liked some of the season, but there was an awful lot of negative stuff with little fun or happy stuff to offset it. I found the finale totally depressing.
