Greys Anatomy- Song Beneath the Song- 2011

Has Greys Come Back from the Grave?

I have to say that the only reason I even tuned into this episode of Greys Anatomy was for the music. Most Grey's fans will instantly recognize the play list from episode 18. Other than that I personally was not expecting much, after the loss of Burke early on the show already had a black eye for me, and then there was the seasons where it seemed like George was going to sleep with the entire cast. It all became too much and this fan swore off what had been almost a ritual!

SPOILER ALERT!!

SPOILER ALERT!!

This episode rocks it right out of the gate! If you have not yet seen this episode pull up Hulu or CH131 and watch right now! Do not continue with this article because it will be spoiled for you completely. (well maybe not totally, but if you have ever liked the show, go check it out first)

As the show opens Callie and Arizona have been a collision that sends Torres through the windshield and onto the hood of their vehicle. This scene was out of the box crazy! The blood, glass and hysteria were all perfectly pitched and shot, great job from the start, I must say. In addition to great visuals is the lead into Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol. As the team at Seattle Grace get prepared to bring in and save one of their own a bloodied Callie is rushed through the doors with the entire staff in attendance and a beautiful Callie stands off to the side and begins to sing.

While the team works to stabilize her each have their tender moments singing the lyrics to this haunting song. My personal opinion on this Glee like production is that Miranda Baileys moment was the most touching, however they were all great at communicating their fear and pain.

Did it get weird at times? If I am honest, yes, but just a little and while I do not think it would work for the show to continue with this genre it totally worked for this episode! Other wonderful songs included tonight were:

*Breathe
*Chasing Cars
*Wait
*The Story
*Grace
* Many More

If you think all this means the medicine, humor and drama of Grey's is going to be lost, think again. It was woven together very artfully. You will get the full Grey's Anatomy experience but with an added bonus. The emotions of the entire staff are communicated with awesome music and expression.

Most touching song of the night had to be when Callie sang The Story, whether the actress actually sang the song or not she made it look real and I for one had goose bumps!

Not everyone agrees with this assessment, some on comments on Twitter prove that a few fans were less than impressed and I guess that just goes to prove everyone has an opinion. In my humblest opinion it was fantastic and I MIGHT even start watching the show again! Notice, I said maybe...
