Although this is a fictional couple, many fans cannot wait between Thursday night episodes to learn more about the ceremony, the dress, and other wedding details.
Grey's Anatomy fans, fear not. Izzie, played by Katherine Heigl, has created a blog and website devoted to the wedding. The site contains suitable romantic fluff to keep most fans happy and eager while waiting for the next episode.
Hosted on the popular website, The Knot, Izzie has set-up several pages highlighting the couple, the proposal, and the dresses (with pictures) as seen on the April 23 episode, other wedding details, and a blog. You can also find 2 guest books on the site. The first one is a regular guest book where visitors can sign and add remarks. The second book is closed and reserved for other characters from Seattle Grace Hospital. You'll find comments from Lexie, Alex, and Mark Sloan to name a few.
For a fun read, check out the Wedding Advice link. There are only a few comments from other characters, but I suspect that Izzie may be adding more as the wedding approaches.
The wedding website may seem a bit frivolous to those of us who are not eager Grey's Anatomy followers. However, the website does serve a deeper purpose than to showcase a television wedding.
Meredith and Derek's wedding is a great tool to raise money for 3 very real and very important charities. If you click the Gift Registry link on the left-hand side of the website, you will not be given a list of knick knacks to buy for a TV land couple. Instead, you can choose to make a real donation to the American Academy of Neurology, the American Skin Association, or the Alzheimer's Association.
These 3 charities have connections to Grey's Anatomy via its storylines. Derek plays a neurosurgeon on the show. Izzie recently had a suspicious spot on her skin checked out and, it turns out, helps to lead her to a cancer diagnosis. Meredith's mother suffered from Alzheimer's in prior seasons.
Although it seems silly to have a site devoted to a pretend wedding, I'm glad to see it is a vehicle to raise money for medical research. If dedicated fans each contributed $5, then Meredith and Derek's wedding on Grey's Anatomy could make a difference.

I don't watch this series, good write up though.
Tons of my friends are into this show but I just can't seem to dig it.
I was put off by all this attention to a fake wedding about TV characters until you said the site gives people a make a real donation to the American Academy of Neurology, the American Skin Association, or the Alzheimer's Association. :)
I don't watch Grey's Anatomy, but you've intrigued me!
