Grid-Tie Solar Panel Setup Without Batteries

Dante Scott
The solar panel's ability to create home power is an amazing thing and with the price of panels coming more into line with traditional power sources. The return on investment and government kickbacks are making solar power a more attractive option for a person that wants to put a little effort into building their own system.

Figuring out how to build your own solar panel system can be one of the most satisfying things you can do as a home owner. When you look at the cost of a solar panel system the one thing that just about makes the cost go up by 33% is a battery pack. If you could build a system without the batteries and still get the money savings wouldn't you do it?

Well here is how it can be done. Well not the whole electrical specs but the basics. First you will need Solar Panels. Second you will need a lot of wire that is specked to handle the voltage you choose. Third you will need to get the key ingredient, it is a grid tie inverter. Or more specifically you will need several grid tie inverters.

In the last few years a smaller version of the grid tie inverters started popping up for sale that just needed a regular wall outlet to plug into. You run the lines from the solar panel or panels to the grid tie inverters. Then you plug the grid tie inverters into the wall.

The key to keeping it virtually cheap is to do it in small stages. Match the voltage of a few solar panels to the grid tie inverter. And repeat. You can get 2 or 3 panels and a grid tie inverter for pretty cheap. Then save up for another round of them. Rinse and repeat.

You are probably thinking what is the catch? Well you have to contact your local electricity provider so you can confirm that your power meter outside your house will go in reverse to get the money savings. Some providers will not provide this type of meter. Also you need to confirm that they will allow you to grid-tie. Because the inverters need to detect when the power goes out and disconnect too. If they don't disconnect they can feed power to the line as the work crew is fixing it, which is a HUGE problem. So get the right grid-tie inverters, solar panels and permission and you are good to go green!
