Grief

T. L. Cooper
My tears fall
I weep
Not for you
You were ready to go
But for what I've lost
Would I have ever been ready to let go?
Your presence in my life
Your voice saying "I love you. I miss you."
Your eyes lighting up
When I enter the room
Your smile
When I tell you my dreams
Your hug
When I arrive and then leave your house
Your welcoming spirit
That embraced all
Your pride in me
For all that I achieved
Your support
When I chose a different path

My tears fall
I weep
But I'm grateful
I have memories
Of how you touched my life
Of all you taught me
Of laughter in your home
Of conversations - the serious and the absurd
Of a table full of favorites - food and people
Of every time your face lit up
Of every time I felt your love
Of your comforting embrace

Mostly I'm grateful
You were my grandparents
