Griffin's Pancake Syrup Review

Tara Cellars
If you are like my family then you love pancakes. Normally I buy a brand of syrup from Sav-A-Lot, but I did not have the chance to go there to buy syrup last time I needed some. I went to Wal-Mart and decided to try Griffin's Pancake Syrup. I had looked at all of the varieties in the aisle and I decided on Griffin's because of the brand recognition. I have heard nothing but good things about the brand and all of the other products through them that I had tried were good. I bought this and brought it home.

I cooked my pancakes for my husband and me as I normally would. I then buttered them a put a light coat of syrup on them. My husband put more on his pancakes as he usually does. I took my first bite and looked at him. I then asked him, "What do you think?" He took a bite and then told me that this isn't normal syrup. I had to agree with him, this was no normal syrup. This is the sweetest syrup that I had ever tried. I couldn't eat my pancake with the little I had put on mine because all you could taste was the sweet sugary substance that they call pancake syrup.

The reason this syrup tastes like just sugar is because basically that's all its made form. There really isn't much more flavor added. The top three ingredients are corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, and sugar syrup. No wonder it's so bad, it's made out of sugar, sugar, and more sugar! What's even more ridiculous is that they say that one servicing is ΒΌ cup. If you eat something with that much syrup on it you will be bouncing of the walls and have a blood sugar crash! Each serving is 20% of your daily value.

I will never ever buy this again! This is the worst syrup ever. I do not suggest anyone try this. The quality of this product is bad because of taste, and for health reasons. This is enough to put someone into sugar shock. I will still buy other Griffin's products, but this is their worst one ever. I urge no one to even give this a chance. If you want to know what it tastes like, take a spoon full of sugar and eat that. It won't be half as bad as the syrup!

I LOVE this syrup. I pick it up when we make a trip to OK. Wish they carried it here.

I moved to CO. about 8 years ago. You can't get Griffin syrup here. So my family and I take turns ordering it. Sometimes we even pack up and drive to OK. just to get it. BEST SYRUP EVER!

I LOVE their syrups, and their jellies. I hoard them up when I can find them. Small company and family owned since 1908.

Seriously? Syrup is sugar...and what goes on pancakes and waffles.

I too, grew up with Griffin's and have lived all over the US. Most states I have lived in do not sell Griffins...so I "import" it in wherever I live.
We don't eat pancakes/waffles very often...but when we do, I have my Griffins ready!

Griffins is the only syrup my family will eat. I agree with the other comments.

If it's not Griffin's it's imitation. Sounds like you've been using imitation Griffin's your whole life and couldn't handle the real stuff when you finally got it. Really! You didn't expect syrup to be all sugar? They have stuff out there call Sugar Free if you want it to taste like crap.

I'm not going to go so far as to say you're an idiot..... but it's pancake syrup.... you know, runny sugar. What the heck do you normally use?

  • Jim D.5/4/2010

You're an idiot! Your husband is a bigger idiot for putting up with you!

Does Maple Syrup need to be refrigerated after opening. Some bottles by Griffin say so and others don't. If you don't what type of illness might it cause if you continue to use it unrefrigerated?

That's the most idiotic review I've ever read. Griffin's the best.
