Grizzlies-Thunder Series Heads to Game 7

The Grizzlies-Thunder Game 7 could be an epic showdown between two franchises trying to prove they are among the elite of the NBA. The Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder are trying to overcome the past in this series, but only one of them will be able to advance to the Western Conference Finals on Sunday.

ESPN reported Memphis won Game 6 on Friday night, evening up the series at three games apiece for each team. It all came down to the second half of the game, where the Grizzlies were forced to overcome a 10-point deficit at halftime to take the lead. A clutch three pointer by Shane Battier as the buzzer at the end of the second quarter sounded might have been the exact momentum swing that this team was looking for.

In the second half, Memphis out-scored Oklahoma City 51-29, all while shutting down Kevin Durant on offense. Durant would end up with just 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting, posting some of the worst numbers he has ever had in the playoffs. Once again Russell Westbrook took the most shots for OKC, hitting on 11-of-22 for 27 points in the losing effort.

Zach Randolph had a huge game for Memphis, scoring 30 points and grabbing 13 rebounds during his 40 minutes of action. He helped lead the team to a huge second-half comeback, and it was keyed by his movement in the low post. He basically took this team on his back and helped them hit some of the biggest shots that this franchise has ever had. O.J. Mayo added 16, Mike Conley scored 11, and Tony Allen chipped in 10 points as well, giving a very balanced scoring attack for the team.

As the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference playoffs, Memphis wasn't supposed to get past the San Antonio Spurs in the first round. Now they are just one win away from the Western Conference Finals and a match-up with the Dallas Mavericks. It goes without saying that the Oklahoma City Thunder has different plans for what might take place on Sunday, and that Durant isn't going to go down without a fight.

Game 7 of the Memphis-Oklahoma City series will take place at 3:30 p.m. EDT Sunday. It's the last series still going in the second round of the NBA playoffs, and the drama that has built up in this series makes Game 7 a must-watch for any NBA fans. They have the docket all to themselves on May 15, and that could present a stage where legacies are built. Will this be the biggest win in the history of the Memphis franchise? Or will this be the next chapter in the Durant and Westbrook show?
