But General Beauregard Lee, PhD is no ordinary groundhog. He is the most well-known, celebrated groundhog in the southeast. General Beauregard Lee, PhD, who lives year round in his groundhog mansion at the Yellow River Game Ranch in metro Atlanta, is known as Georgia's Official Weather Prognosticator and Georgia's Cumulous Barometrist Groundhogolist.
The weather forecasts of General Beauregard Lee, PhD have been 94% correct in the past and he has been applauded by The National Weather Service many times for his accurate predictions.
General Beauregard Lee, PhD has received an honorary doctorate, a DWP, Doctor of Weather Prognostication, from the University of Georgia. He also has another honorary doctorate, a DSG, Doctor of Southern Groundology, from Georgia State University.
General Beauregard Lee, PhD, a celebrity among groundhogs, was featured on "The Today Show" with weather correspondent Willard Scott in 1988. In addition to General Beauregard Lee, PhD, the preserve is the home to over six hundred animals and birds. The Yellow River Game Ranch is open to the public seven days a week from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. It is closed on most holidays, except, of course, Groundhog Day.
