Grounding Exercises to Cleanse Healing Energy

During healing and other spiritual sessions, the therapist will make a temporary attachment to other people's psychic energy, their frame of mind and emotional energies. They might pick up on a person's depression, confusion, anxiety or disillusionment for instance and it might be necessary for the practitioner to tune into this and feel what others are going through in order to help heal and understand.

So why is it beneficial for those within the alternative healing professions to ground themselves and how might they do this?

Before any psychic session some practitioners find it helpful to ground and protect themselves. Grounding helps psychic workers get back in touch with their physical being and helps protect from any negative psychic energies surrounding them.

It isn't necessary to perform grounding exercises before or after every healing session but it can be helpful to make this a regular practice. Signs of being ungrounded include: feelings of negativity or depression, irritability, fatigue, becoming suddenly accident-prone and feeling dizzy.

There are visualization techniques to help people become grounded and other methods which are more physical bringing a greater personal involvement with nature such as walking in the countryside, drinking water, working with crystals, animal grooming and sports.

The most common visualization technique is to stand on the ground and imagine you are a tree. Above the ground you have branches gently moving in an imaginary breeze. A tree has long roots that creep deep down into the soil below. As you stand, visualize your roots starting just beneath your feet and traveling down through the earth. Imagine those roots growing thicker and stronger as they anchor you into the soil, keeping you solid and stable.

Visualize your psychic roots going down and out in all directions as they find the nutrients, water and air to meet your spiritual needs. Feel the energy from the earth as your roots bring this up into your body.

As you feel this energy fill you, you will know you are grounded.

The benefits of this visualization exercise aren't just for yourself but for others too. A mature tree produces oxygen, necessary for us to breathe; a mature forest can act as a filter, cleaning the air we breathe. A grounded healer is a healthier healer and is more able to give of themselves to others.

Trees cleanse the air, act as windbreaks, provide shade, shelter and food from their fruits. As you become grounded, people will be drawn to your strength as they find you a good emotional and spiritual support to lean on.
